Cassandra Hamlin has 23 years of teaching experience and has been a Reading Specialist/ Literacy Leader for 19 of those years. She has taught in various title and non-title schools throughout the Northside Independent District of San Antonio, Texas.

Mrs. Hamlin has also been a founding faculty member for two new schools where she was in charge of creating a whole Reading/ Language Arts department for these elementary schools including purchasing literacy materials, developing curriculum, and providing guidance in the area of literacy for the campus.
​
She is passionate about creating a culture of literacy within her campuses and has initiated innovative opportunities for school-wide involvement. Such initiatives include Coffee and Literacy for parents, Literacy Nights, Fairy Tale Bowl, Battle of the Books, Vocabulary and Book Literacy Parades, and Writing Camps to name a few.

Mrs. Hamlin is not only a leader at the campus level, but also a leader within the district level serving on multiple district committees and leadership roles including the NCN Campus Representative, Northside Dyslexia Task Force, Northside Reading Cadre, Northside District Reading Specialist Mentor, and Northside Summer School Liason.

Cassandra Hamlin earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota at Moorhead, a Master of Arts in Reading and Literacy with a Reading Specialist certification from the University of Texas at San Antonio, in addition to a Reading Recovery certification from Texas Women’s University.

Accolades accomplished during her teaching career include being named Teacher of the Year for Northside ISD for multiple years and being a four-time Northside Education Foundation Grant winner.
​
Her professional areas of interest include word work, reading intervention, children’s literature, digital literacy, and professional development in literacy.
