Frances L. Gonzalez-Garcia, Ph.D., is a literacy advocate at heart and has served in the education sector for the past two decades through the capacity of multiple roles including that of a classroom teacher, Master Reading Teacher, district job-embedded trainer (literacy, math, and science), reading specialist, university adjunct instructor/lecturer, university reading clinic supervising assistant, district-level ELA coordinator, district-level dyslexia coordinator, and currently as an independent literacy consultant providing professional development in support of literacy for districts, affiliations, and state education agencies nationwide.

Her extensive experience in education includes working with learners of all diverse backgrounds in addition to gifted and talented, multilingual, and dyslexic students in K-12 Title/nonTitle settings. In higher education, she has taught undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses for public and private universities.
 

She has been a featured speaker for the International Literacy Association, a contributing author for ILA’s Literacy Today magazine, and a national author panel facilitator collaborating with Newberry authors Donna Bowman, Kirby Larson, and Eugene Yelchin on the importance of supporting adolescent literacy in today’s classrooms.

 

As an active presenter for national, state, and local conferences, she shares her experiences and background knowledge in research-based metacognitive strategies, text sets and multimodal texts, technology integration, literacy motivation, game-based instructional practices, literacy leadership roles, literacy spaces by design, and practical instructional approaches in multilingual/multicultural contexts. Her commitment extends to advocating for equity in literacy and cultivating inclusive learning environments that are supportive of diverse learners.

Recognized for her contributions and efforts, Dr. Gonzalez-Garcia has been honored with prestigious awards such as the International Literacy Association (ILA) Legends in Literacy Award on a national scale and the HEB Excellence in Education Award in Leadership at the state level.
